Dave and I are so proud to have voted for Barack Obama, this nation's first African American President. We look forward to supporting him and watching/participating as the nation slowly recovers from the past 8 terrible years. We are also proud that Prop 4 did not pass. It is extremely unfortunate that Prop 8 did pass, but we will continue the fight for equality. Equal rights have never been won over night. Eventually, though, gay marriage will be legal in this state, and also country.
This has been an historic evening for us. We are tearful, cheerful, and in awe of what our country has achieved and at the same time in shock and saddened by the discriminatory thinking of many our home state. Our confusion stems from this question: Why do you care? Legalizing gay marriage doesn't affect anyone at all, other than those who wish to marry the one they love but can't. Discrimination is always wrong. And it will always be overcome in the end. That's the true promise of this country.
"Faith is the substance of things hoped for." We will never give up faith that one day people will not be discriminated against for any reason.
This straight couple supports gay marriage rights. It's wrong to take away someone's civil right to enter into a civil marriage.

I, too, am SO grateful to live in a country where we all can have a voice, and can vote however we please. Obviously we don't all agree, but I appreciate the fact that we can dialogue and share our ideas, concerns, and opinions. I think that's one of the great things about the USA.
It has never been suprising to me that we are friends. We think so alike on so many things. I love that you two are so open minded and tolerant of others and their choices. I wish religious institutions were the same, but so many say that it is "their way or the highway." I strive so hard to be a good person, and find that I don't need religion to get me there. If someone does need religion to help them be the person they want to be, then I am glad they made that choice, because I want them to be good people!
Proposition 8 should never have been a proposition in the first place. It should never be the right of the general masses to choose the rights of other. Those that supported Prop 8 would be the same people that wouldn't have wanted to give me the right to vote had I lived in 1920. Think of all the cheaters, liars, people with addictions, etc, that got to MAKE THE CHOICE on whether or not two people could marry, simply because the voter was born straight. Completely unfair, and I am sickened by it.
